Manipur media houses suspend cease work strike

The decision to suspend the strike was resolved after DIPR sanctioned an amount of Rs 92.19 lakh meant for print and electronic media, a release stated.

The Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) and Manipur Hill Journalists’ Union (MHJU) on Friday announced that the media cease work strike carried out on Thursday in protest against the failure of the state government to clear its advertisement bills to media houses, has been suspended.

A meeting presided by EGM president Khogendra Khomdram was held at Manipur Press Club wherein it was unanimously agreed to suspend the cease work strike, a joint release issued by MHJU and EGM stated on Friday

The decision to suspend the strike was resolved after DIPR sanctioned an amount of Rs 92.19 lakh meant for print and electronic media, it stated.

Besides, the chief minister of Manipur in a meeting with the heads of different departments in the state instructed them to compulsorily clear more than 50 per cent of the pending advertisement bills by December and the remaining  by March next year, it mentioned.

The director of DIPR has intimated the instruction of the chief minister to the EGM and the MHJU, it added.
