Manipur: Locals protest against Hiyanglam-shooting incident

Decrying the incident wherein a man was allegedly shot in the leg at Hiyanglam Hiranmei area under Hiyanglam Police Station in Kakching district, Manipur on Tuesday, locals of Hiyanglam carried out a protest demonstration on Wednesday.

According to sources, the shooting incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday afternoon. The man was allegedly abducted by the miscreants and brought to the said area, where they shot him in the leg.

Taking part in the protest jointly organized by Hiyanglam Hiranmei Meira paibi and Youth Pioneers Association, vice president of the association, S Chaoba condemned the shooting incident stating that it created fear psychosis and panic among the residents of the locality.

No reasons or clarifications regarding the shooting were given to the locals, he asserted. He maintained that the locals are faced with problems owing to the same. He appealed to those to be sensible of the prevailing tense situation in the state and not repeat such misconduct in future.

Protestors displayed various placards which read ‘Meeyam marakta nongmei kappa yaningde’, ‘Meeyamda aki akhang pibiganu’, ‘Nongmei niyom chumna sijinabiyu’ etc.
