Locals of Nongmeibung Purana Rajbari in Imphal East on Tuesday staged a sit-in protest, decrying the CBI’s alleged harassment of locals in connection with the investigation into the alleged murder of two girls that took place during the first week of the Manipur conflict.
The protestors demanded authorities concerned to “stop mentally harassing” the locals in the name of murder investigation which at this point had become a daily routine.
They also demanded the state and the Central government to properly carry out investigative procedures equally in areas inhabited by the two warring communities. Placards demanding the CBI to stop harassing innocent residents of the locality were also displayed during the protest.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the protest, a women protestor recalled that said incident occurred on May 4.
“The two girls were murdered by unidentified miscreants and their bodies were disposed of in the locality unfortunately,” she said.
No resident from the Nongmeibung Purana Rajbari area was involved in the murder, she said. She further appealed to the CBI to stop mentally harassing the locals for the sake of the investigation.
“The locals have diligently cooperated with the CBI officials till now, but we have had enough of their daily mental harassment,” she said.
The protestor further demanded the state and the Central government to equally uphold investigation protocols both in the Meitei and Kuki dominated areas.
So far, the central investigation agencies are unable to track down the body of numerous Meiteis who went missing during the conflict, but here they are carrying out the investigation on their whims, she added.
