Manipur: Liquor worth over Rs 14 lakh destroyed

The malkhana rooms have become congested due to storage of seized articles and making it inconvenient to store newly seized confiscated items, as per sources.

The Manipur Excise department destroyed liquor worth over Rs 14 lakh at its headquarter complex located at Lamphelpat, Imphal West on Sunday.

The various brands of excisable articles like Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) including RUM, beer and illicit country liquor were confiscated and lying in the malkhana of excise headquarter, Lamphelpat since March 1. The liquors were confiscated by 13 different excise stations of the excise department.

The malkhana rooms have become congested due to storage of seized articles and making it inconvenient to store newly seized confiscated items, as per sources.

In view of the fact and circumstances the confiscated liquors including 286.43 litre of IMFL including RUM; 2555.16 litre of beer and 12,356.90 litre of DIC liquor stoked from March 1 to April 30 were destroyed under section 69 of Manipur Liquor Prohibition Act 1991 at the head quarters.

The order for destroying the confiscated liquors was issued on May 9 signed by commissioner of excise, Manipur, Hungyo Worshang.
