Villagers of Kairembikhok village which suffered heavy damage in every household by the recent hailstorm of May 5 have appealed to the state government to announce a special economic package to help them in rebuilding the village.
The villagers raised their appeal on Wednesday when a media team visited the village in Thoubal district.
One Norendro said that the Kairembikhok is a small village which falls under Wangjing Tentha assembly constituency and it has around 700 houses.
Not a single house was spared by the recent hailstorm and every household in the village suffered severe damages, he said. He said that around 70 per cent of the villagers are carpenters. Unfortunately, the tools got lost and rendered useless by the storm while raw materials were destroyed along with the houses, he added.
The villagers are keenly awaiting the assistance and relief announced by the state government, he further said, adding the state government should announce a special economic package for the residents of Kairembikhok village.
He stressed it would be challenging for them to restart their lives, urging the authorities to launch a survey to assess the damages in the village.
