Manipur: Job scammer apprehended

The scammer was apprehended after victims drew the attention of Arambai Tenggol unit 17 after which he was handed over to the police.

A scammer operating a job centre in Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai, Imphal East, was apprehended on Friday and handed over to state police for further legal actions.

The individual, identifed as Ahanthem Indrajit, son of A Inaobi from Khurai Thoidingjam Leikai, who operated a job centre named Leima Chanu Job centre at the same address, allegedly swindled money from jobs aspirants.

He was apprehended after victims drew the attention of Arambai Tenggol unit 17 after which he was handed over to the police.

Speaking to the media, manager of the centre Mutum Mangaleima stated that Indrajit did not even pay salaries to employees of the centre.

“There were many disagreements regarding salaries. His relatives even assaulted one of the staff for kicking up dust in connection with the salary,” he said.

He reported that the job centre collected Rs 2,000-3,000 as assurance fee for job placement.

Meanwhile, Araambai Tenggol highlighted that the job centre assured job placements to nearly 1,000 candidates and collected around Rs 800 as form fees.

The group also uncovered that nearly 90 percent of the candidates were from economically weak families.

Arambai further revealed that Indrajit had been collecting donations from people in the name of helping relief camps.
