Manipur: JAC demands appropriate punishment to alleged murderers

Demanding appropriate punishment to the alleged murderers of late Thangjam Rakesh alias Bihari, the ‘JAC against the Killing of Rakesh’ staged a sit-in protest at Kongpal Mutum Leikai, Imphal East on Sunday.

It is reported that late Rakesh, 28, son of Th Ibeton of Kongpal, Imphal East was stabbed by some youths at his residence on the night of December 10.

He was immediately rushed to Advance Hospital for treatment and discharged after three days.

On December 17, Rakesh was again brought to Advance Hospital following health complications, and the hospital declared him abrought dead, according to reports.

The post-mortem of the body was conducted on Saturday; however, the family members refused to collect the body, as the post-mortem report is yet to be received.

The family members had also lodged an FIR at Porompat police station.

According to police sources, six accused were picked-up; however, one of them was released after he was found to be a minor and the rest are serving police custody remand. Investigation of the case is ongoing.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the protest, aunt of the deceased Th Shanti strongly condemned the alleged murder.

She also expressed dissatisfaction with the doctors of Advance hospital for their alleged negligence and discharging the patient allegedly without keeping him under observation for some period.

If the doctors are unable to give proper treatment, they should at least refer the patient to another hospital, she further said, adding, “Had they given him proper treatment or referred to another hospital, Rakesh could have been still alive.”

She appealed to the authority concerned to punish the culprits involved in the killing of his nephew as per the law of the land.
