The search for VDF personnel N Premananda who went missing since the intervening night of January 20 and 21 at Urantop village under the jurisdiction of Chakpikarong Police Station in Chandel district resumed on Thursday.
Premananda had gone missing while on duty to destroy illegal poppy plantations in Chandel district. In an effort to find him, a team of combined forces led by additional SP Thoubal Wangkhomba and additional SP Chandel Amarjit reached the forest of Phaisi village on Thursday.
Phaisi is located at a distance of around 130 km from Chakpikarong Police Station. The team will be camping in the forest for four-five days to carry out the search, sources said.
It may be mentioned that JAC of missing N Premananda had imposed an indefinite bandh along NH-102 at Thoubal area since the midnight of January 31. However, it was lifted for some time while a search by combined forces was being carried out.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Chandel police led by Chandel police OC, Chandel RI along with 8 MR and Japhou Bazaar authority destroyed 8 acres of poppy plantation at Old Lamkhang Khunthak village in Chandel.
According to sources, around 11 am on Wednesday, the combined team destroyed poppy plants cultivated in an area of 8 acres at Old Lamkhang Khunthak Village in Chandel district under the supervision of additional SP (L/O, Ops), Chandel SDPO and the overall supervision of Chandel SP.
Another combined team of District Police Tengnoupal, Forest Dept and NAB also destroyed 37 acres of Poppy cultivation in T Molphei village of SL Zougam hill range under Machi Police station on Wednesday from 10.10 am till 5 pm.
In Kangpokpi, a combined team of Kangpokpi district police, Forest department, NCB, EM destroyed illicit poppy cultivation on 25 acres of land in between Molvom Village and Tumnoupokpi village under SKL Police station on Thursday.
