Manipur police seized 50 soap cases of heroin powder and 8.11 kg of brown sugar from two different autorickshaws while four drug smugglers were arrested from different places in two days.

A team of Kakching district commando seized as many as 50 soap cases of heroin powder from an autorickshaw (Bajaj RE) and arrested two persons from Kakching Lamkhai around 1.25 pm on Monday.

The arrested persons have been identified as one Henthiansang Haokip, 23, son of Yangkhothang Haokip from Moreh Ward No VII  and T Robert Baite, 35, son of Zamkhomang Baite from Panglian village Singngat subdivision Churachandpur, presently staying at Moreh Chikiam village.

Police reported that during random frisking and checking as a part of ‘War on Drugs’ district commando under the overall supervision of superintendent of police, Kakching  Shery Vats detained one autorickshaw bearing registration number MN02B-2462 at Kakching Lamkhai.

The two occupants identified themselves as Henthiansang who was the driver and one Robert. On searching the vehicle after observing legal formalities, 50 soap cases weighing around 611 grams of suspected heroin powder were detected. They were found from a modified chamber on the back side of the vehicle.

Both the persons were arrested on the spot while the suspected drugs were seized.

The arrested persons along with the seized items have been handed over to Kakching police station for further necessary legal action.

Meanwhile, a team of district commando, Imphal East detected approximately 8.11 kg of brown sugar from an autorickshaw (Bajaj RE) and arrested two persons around 6.30 pm from the eastern side of Kiyamgei Thongkong, Imphal East on Sunday.

The arrested persons have been identified as one Md Abdul Salam, 47, son of late Md Chaoba from Lilong Yangbi Leikai, Lilong Police Station, Thoubal and Md Wasim Akram alias Tete, 19 son of late Md Ayaiddin from Lilong Mairenkhul, Lilong Police Station, Thoubal district.

Both the persons came in the autorickshaw bearing registration number MN-01AL-9145. They were detained during random frisking and checking while by the police team. On searching the vehicle, eight plastic packets of brown sugar weighing around 8.11 kg were detected.

On further checking, a cash of Rs 2,730; one mobile phone; one aadhaar card and registration card of the vehicles were also detected from their possession.

The arrested persons along with the seized articles were handed over to Irilbung Police Station for taking up necessary legal actions.
