In wake of the recent violent hailstorm that caused large-scale damage to properties across Manipur on Sunday, the state government has issued orders to the Deputy Commissioners in the state to monitor the prices of roofing materials, including CGI sheets, to ensure availability to the affected households at reasonable rates.
Following the same, the Imphal West Deputy commissioner on Monday issued regulations considering the rising demand for roofing materials including CGI roofing, urgent need proper rationalization of all the available roofing materials in the District and to ensure it reaches to all the genuinely affected family members.
Imphal West DC, Th Kirankumar, in a statement, said that all whole-sellers, retailers and shops by any nomenclature shall remain open in all days including holidays and Sunday; the stock position, brand, thickness and prices shall be affixed outside their shop/establishment for general awareness.

A copy of the same shall have to be made available to the DC, Imphal West through DSO, CAF and PD; the rates of April 30, 2024 (or lower rates, wherever possible) shall be used as the market rate/price of the material, it stated.
The regulations also include that no bulk purchase/buying, including by private parties, shall be allowed in any of the Centre/shops/establishment; all sales shall be only for the hailstorm affected families and details of the sales to be indicated in the records of the establishment and District Supply Officer, CAF & PD, Imphal West and representative of Superintendent of Police, Imphal West shall monitor the entire operation of the shop/establishment in the District, it stated.
The regulations have been made with immediate effect for one week that is from May 6 till May 13, it said. Any grievance of in connection with the above in Imphal West District may contact or SMS their grievances to Mobile No. 8132854956, it mentioned.
The same has been issued vide Secretariat: CAF & PD Order No EC-103/1/2021-CAFANDPD-CAFANDPD dated May 6, 2024, it added.
Meanwhile, as per a latest order issued by Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur, Lourembam Bikram, all wholesalers/retailers of CGI sheets (Roofing sheets) in the district have been instructed not to increase the sale price of CGI sheets more than the prevailing market rate, it asserted.
The statement further said that necessary actions will be taken up against those found violating the order as per relevant rules and acts. The instructions have been made in view of the heavy rainfall with windstorm/ hailstorm which occurred on Sunday and prevailing bad weather conditions in the State that have caused widespread damages to the properties in the district, it stated.
