Manipur governor meets six-member delegation of ABTA

A six-member delegation of Akhil Bhartiya Transport Association (ABTA) called on Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum highlighting the day-to-day challenges and problems faced by the transporters of goods, including essential commodities due to the critical situation prevailing in the National highways and price rise of commodities.

The team briefed the crucial roles taken by the transporters during the ongoing conflict in the state stating that they have braved as warriors and ambassadors of the great nation to reach out to the remotest corner to avail all the commodities, stated a release from the Raj Bhavan.

They also informed the Governor about the insecure environment in the National Highways 2 and 37 wherein extortion in the form of illegal taxes are reportedly collected by self-styled groups/miscreants at various checkpoints, it said. They further requested her to look into the seriousness of the problem and the impending grim situation faced by the truck drivers, the transporters, as well as the general public of Manipur, the Raj Bhavan mentioned.

Hearing their concerns and grievances, Governor Anusuiya Uikey said she had raised the issue during the recent meeting in Shillong with the Union Home Minister and also sought intervention to stop such illegal activities in the highways, the release stated.

She mentioned that issues of extortion, looting and illegal tax collection especially along the national highways have also been discussed with the Security Advisor, Chief Secretary and the Chief Minister, it stated. 

She also said that measures to control all forms of disturbance were also informed by the Government, it added. The Governor further assured to raise the matter to the Central leaders and also urged the team to meet with the Security Advisor, it stated.
