Manipur Governor La Ganesan expressed happiness on removal of AFSPA

The governor expressed his gratitude to the Central government and observed that the state government was able to take this landmark decision under the dynamic leadership of Narendra Modi.

Manipur Governor La Ganesan on Friday expressed happiness to learn that the state government removed Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 from areas under 15 police stations in six districts, namely Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Jiribam, Kakching and Bishnupur from Friday.

Consequent upon the considerable improvement of law and order situation in the state, this remarkable step has been taken by the state government to fulfil the aspiration of the people of the state, stated a release issued by Governor’s Secretariat, Raj Bhavan in Imphal.

The governor expressed his gratitude to the Central government and observed that the state government was able to take this landmark decision under the dynamic leadership of Narendra Modi, it stated.

The governor further expressed his full confidence that in due course the whole state will be free from any unwanted situation due to the invaluable cooperation from the people of the state, it added.

While the Government of India removed AFSPA from specific areas in the jurisdiction of nine police stations in six districts with effect from April 1, 2022, in 2004, AFSPA was lifted from areas under the jurisdiction of six police stations in two districts.
