Manipur Governor inaugurates ‘School on Wheels’ initiative

The School on Wheels is to ensure that children in relief camps receive uninterrupted education, says Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey.

In a significant step towards providing education to displaced students of Manipur, Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Sunday inaugurated a ‘School on Wheel’ initiative at Bal Vidya Mandir complex located at Palace Compound, Imphal East.

During the inaugural programme, the governor  praised the initiative as a commendable effort to ensure the displaced students do not face any educational setbacks.

Governor highlighted the challenges faced by students affected by the conflict since May 3,2023 and said that School on Wheels is to ensure children in relief camps receive uninterrupted education.

She urged the chief secretary to provide support to the Samiti in expanding the initiative by increasing the number of such buses.

Governor also expressed empathy towards the plight of displaced people in relief camps stating that she had instructed the chief secretary to initiate steps towards establishing permanent settlement for them.

She also said that the efforts in the field of education since 1979 played by Vidya Bharati Shiksha Samiti is acknowledgeable.

She added that 15 schools, 36 Sanskar Kendras in Manipur have been contributed by the Samiti.
The inaugural programme was attended by chief secretary Vineet Joshi, Sangththan Mantri of Vidya Bharati, Pawan Kumar Tiwari, president of Vidya Bharati Shiksha, Vikash Samiti.

The aim of establishment of School on Wheels is to reach out to students residing in relief camps across the state.

The school bus, equipped with a library, computers and sports items will be accompanied by a teacher as it travels to different relief camps across the state.

The School on Wheels initiative symbolises a concerted effort towards ensuring that education remains accessible to all, even in the most challenging circumstances, reflecting the resilience and commitment of the Manipur community towards the welfare of its children.
