Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Saturday extended greetings to the people of the state, especially the Jain brethren, on the sacred and auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti.
In her greetings, the Governor said that Lord Mahavira, an apostle of peace and non-violence, showed humanity the path to salvation through love, compassion, mercy and abdication of material elements. His teachings transcend all barriers and his everlasting message of peaceful co-existence rings true even now, she asserted.
Governor Uikey called upon all to re-dedicate ourselves to follow the spiritual and ethical path propounded by Him and follow his values of living in harmony and brotherhood.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh also wished the people of the state, especially Jain brothers and sisters, on the auspicious occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir.
CM Biren, in his wishes, reminded that Lord Mahavir is the 24th and the last Tirthankara of the Jain faith who propounded that ahimsa is the supreme moral virtue. He was an apostle of truth and righteousness, and his teachings, emphasizing on non-violence and leading a virtuous life, holds relevance today, especially as we seek peace and normalcy, he noted.
‘Mahavir Jayanti is an occasion to reflect upon his teachings of universal brotherhood and harmony. I am hopeful that his timeless teachings will guide us on the path to peace and reconciliation’, the CM stated.
