Manipur governor Anusuiya Uikey on Friday visited the families of the two students, Hijam Linthoingambi, 17, and Phijam Hemanjitm, 20, who were presumed killed after their photographs surfaced on social media on September 25.
During the visit to their residences, the Governor expressed her sorrow and pain and shared her condolences to the bereaved families, stated a release. The Governor consoled the parents of the two students and even gave water to the mothers who were on fast for many days, it stated.
She also informed that the CBI enquiry has already initiated a probe against the incident and assured that actions will be taken against the perpetrators as per the law, it said. The Governor was also informed by the locals on the extensive use of force by the security personnel towards the students protesting against the killing of Linthoingambi and Hemanjit, it mentioned.
She shared her grief for all those students who were injured during the agitation, it added.
While briefing the media, Uikey also appealed to all the parents to advise the students for peaceful forms of agitation and not to take the law into their own hands as injuries from such agitations will have a lasting impact on their future, stated the release.
It further said that she visited the injured students and met their parents at Shija Hospital, Langol and also handed over financial assistance. She wished them a speedy recovery and assured required medical assistance, it mentioned.
