Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey handed over the 6th Governor’s Art Award to Laishram Phonindro Singh from Phoijing Chingmang Awang Leikai, Nambol in a solemn ceremony held at Raj Bhavan Imphal on Monday. The award carries a citation, a shawl and a cash amount of Rs 10, 000.
Phonindro is also a recipient of various awards namely Kala Bhushan Award from Manipur Sahitya Parishad in 2012, Vayoshreshtha Samman Award and Indira Gandhi National Excellence Award, 2016.
Governor Anusuiya who is also the chief patron of Arts Society Manipur extended her congratulations and good wishes to the awardee. She expressed happiness that such award will provide a platform for the upcoming artists and even boost their morale and will uplift the artist communities as a whole.
She urged for providing more platforms in the form of art exhibition for the young artist. While inspecting the art works of the awardee, she appreciated the exemplary art works and said that such art work will carry the legacy of the artist in the generations to come.
President, Arts Society Manipur, Th Devendra and its members were also present for the occasion.
Meanwhile, representatives of the ‘Team Meitei Personalities’ met Governor of Manipur Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan today and submitted a brief outline from the seminar organized on the topic “Understanding the Present Conflict & the Way Ahead” held on October 28, 2023.
They informed that such initiatives were taken up for formulating the policies and steps to bring in normalcy in Manipur affected by ethnic strife for over six months.
The governor lauded their initiative for restoring peace and normalcy in the state and appeals all to extend their cooperation in such initiatives.
