In notice issued, the DC stated that it has come to the attention of the undersigned that several unauthorized structures and establishments, both permanent and temporary in nature, have been encroached upon/erected along the river banks and drainage systems within the revenue jurisdiction of Imphal East district despite several cases of eviction removal of such structures by the government and district authorities from time to time thereby, obstructing the normal flow of water, especially, during the monsoon season.

“In this connection, it is hereby given to the public, particularly, the residents who have constructed such unauthorized structures to dismantle and remove them immediately and not later than seven days’ time from the date of issue of this notice”, the DC stated in the notice.

The DC also warned that those who fail to comply with the directive will result in the initiation of eviction procedures by the concerned line departments.

It should be mentioned that almost all the river banks, not only in Imphal East district but also in other districts, have been encroached not only by illegal construction but also by legally permitted construction of residential buildings.
