The Manipur government's policy on COVID-19 needs to be rectified to contain the pandemic in the state, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) vice-president M Hemanta said on Saturday.

There is also an immediate need for installation of TruNat machines (instant rapid testing facility of COVID-19) in all the districts, Hemanta told reporters in Imphal. The machine that can simultaneously conduct a maximum of 30 to 60 samples in a minute, could be very helpful and economical, he added.

Hemanta alleged that due to the multiple failure of the state government's policy in combating the pandemic, the number of COVID-19 patients is rapidly increasing in the state.

“Thus, the state government's policy on COVID-19 need to be rectified and there is an immediate need to establish  separate hospitals which can treat the increasing number of COVID-19 patients in the state before the established hospitals are compelled to ignore the normal patients,” he stated and asked, “Are we going to watch them die?”

Hemanta further urged the government to form a 'cabinet subcommittee' to handle the issues related to COVID-19 as per the wishes of the public.
