The Manipur government on Friday has ordered an inquiry into the death of Athuan Abonmai, advisor, Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN), with state additional chief secretary V Vumlunmang as the inquiry officer.

The inquiry committee is also instructed to find the facts and circumstances leading to the death of Athuan Abonmai, fix responsibility thereof and to recommend preventive measures to avert any such incidents in the future.

The order has been issued in pursuance of the October 6, 2021 Memorandum of Agreement signed between the state government and the “Joint Action Committee Against the Brutal Murder of Athuan Abonmai”, the order added.

The state also issued “compulsory wait” order for Tamenglong DC, Armstrong Pame and SP Mohurle Sandip Gopaldas, who were transferred from the district in the wake of the death of Athuan Abonmai.
