Manipur government asks Army, Assam Rifles to assist civil administration

In Imphal West, Assam Rifles had been requisitioned to assist the civil authority in certain areas.

The Manipur government on Thursday requisitioned Army and Assam Rifles to assist the civil administration in maintenance of peace besides upkeep of law and order in five trouble-torn districts of Manipur.

It may be mentioned that Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA)1958 had been withdrawn from areas in the valley districts under the jurisdiction of 19 police stations, while most of the hill districts remained under AFSPA.

In orders issued by district magistrates of different districts, Army formations and Assam Rifles had been requisitioned for assistance to the civil administration in maintenance of peace.

The districts are Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal.

In Imphal West, Assam Rifles had been requisitioned to assist the civil authority in certain areas from Khongnang Ani Karak to Lilasing Khongnangkhong upto North AOC, Krishna Premi Oil pump to Secretariat upto Singjamei Chinga crossing from 9 am Thursday till March 5.

The order further said, it is for maintenance of peace and bringing a sense of security and confidence among the general public.

For other districts, the requisition for security forces is for assistance in areas covering the jurisdiction of entire district.
