Manipur government alleged of not releasing MGNREGA funds

The All Manipur MGNREGA Implementing Agency Committee warned to launch a blockade in the two national highways (Imphal-Dimapur and Imphal-Jiribam) of Manipur from April 28 midnight, if the pending funds are no released by April 27.

The All Manipur MGNREGA Implementing Agency Committee on Monday alleged the state government of not releasing MGNREGA funds amounting to Rs 230.02 crore and warned to launch a blockade in the two national highways (Imphal-Dimapur and Imphal-Jiribam) of Manipur from April 28 midnight, if the pending funds are no released by April 27.

The payment of the second instalment of first tranche of Central assistance for MGNREGA for financial year 2021-22 has been already sanction by the Centre in March; however, the state government has not release till date, said executive member of the committee Hesho Lorho while speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club in Imphal.

Appeals have been made in this regard to the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Y Khemchand and RD and PR commissioner MH Khan on April 11; unfortunately, they have not given any response till date, he said.

“As we are left with no other choiceS, we are compelled to launch the agitation (blockade) if the pending funds are not released within the said specific time,” he added.
