The Indian Army and Assam Rifles are conducting extensive relief and rescue operations in the flood like situation caused due to torrential rains during cyclone Remal in the states of Manipur, stated a release issued by the PIB (Defence Wing) on Thursday.
Security Forces deployed for internal security swiftly responded to providing immediate relief and support to affected citizens, it stated. Till date, the forces have successfully rescued over 4,000 individuals from affected areas in Manipur including over 1,500 women and 800 children, it stated.
In addition, towards the rescue efforts, the forces ensured distribution of food packets and drinking water to ensure that the affected population has basic facilities and essential supplies, it further said. Army medical teams have provided treatment to 102 individuals, including 55 women, and 24 children, it added.
Meanwhile, the Army has plugged breaches in Imphal river, stated a release.
Engineers of the Indian Army swiftly conducted reconnaissance along the affected stretch of the river where the breaches occurred, it said. It said that the three major breaches were identified out of which two have been successfully plugged last night. Work is currently underway to plug the third breach, i.e., approximately 22-25 meter wide, at Kontha Khabam in Imphal East district, it mentioned.
Army remains dedicated to mitigating the impact of the flooding and ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents, it added.
