At least two died and about 42 injured with two in critical condition following a mob violence in Churachandpur, Manipur on Thursday night after an irate mob attacked the Mini Secretariat Complex at Tuibong, Churachandpur that houses the offices of the DC and SP.
Meanwhile, the state government has caused a complete shutdown of internet services while curfew has been imposed in the whole of Churachandpur district as security forces conducted a flag march in Churachandpur town.
The irate mob had gathered at the SP Office after an order of SP Shivanand Surve suspended head constable Siamlalpaul for posting a selfie with armed Village Volunteers that became viral in the social media.
As the mob attacked the office, police and central forces guarding the campus opened fire with live rounds, rubber bullets and tear gas.
The incident which began around 8.30 pm lasted late into the night.
In the incident, many were injured and taken to the emergency ward of Churachandpur District Hospital where two persons, hit by live bullets, died while another two were admitted in critical condition at the hospitals' ICU and several others were admitted at the surgical and orthopaedic ward.
As the mayhem spread, the mob using stones and sticks tried to attack the SP office and on their way, they burned vehicles parked inside the Mini Secretariat which are used by the paramilitary forces for transportation.
Later, the mob ransacked the SP office and burned the DC office complex.
The two deceased were identified as Letlalkhuol Gangte, So Kamkhomang Gangte of Nalon Village and Thanggoulen Haokip, S/o Seilal Haokip of S Canan Veng; their lifeless bodies are now kept at the district hospital Morgue.
A mob also stormed the DC's residence located near Churachandpur Medical College but there were no reports of any casualties.
However, Friday was a quiet day with no untoward incidents reported while central Force took out a Flag March at Teddim Road during the daytime.
Meanwhile, the ITLF after meeting with other stakeholders have held the DC and SP as responsible for Thursday night incident.
The forum also informed that they chartered a 10-point demand which, if remains unfulfilled within 24 hours, will lead to the closing down of all offices and the DC and SP will be responsible for any untoward incident.
The 10 point demands also include the revocation of suspension order of the Head Constable Siamlalpaul; that the DC and SP should leave the district in 24 hours; inquiry should be initiated to identify security personal involved in the firing last night; all MLAs from the Kuki-Zomi should also take up the issue with the state government; that the 15 February uprising and the killing by the security force will be called 'The wall of remember Massacre', etc.
Late Friday afternoon, the Zo United, which was a conglomerate of all the Inpis from the Zo descendants, announced that night curfew was imposed in all Zo inhabited areas starting from 6 pm of Friday till 6 am of Saturday.
