The government must end the prevailing crisis before the coming of the new academic session as there is a huge apprehension among Internally Displaced Students (IDSs) of losing their academic career, said one Daisinglung Pamei, a villager of Khoupum village on Sunday.
Pamei was speaking to the media while handing over essential food items to the relief camp opened at Leimaram SS Girl’s Hostel.
He said thousands of people from both the hills and valley are suffering for the last over eight months due to the present unrest, and among the displaced people, there are thousands of internally displaced students who are unable to get proper education. If necessary steps are not taken up immediately with the coming of the new academic session, then thousands of students might lose their future career, Pamei said.
He urged the government to put more effort into bringing a solution to the present unrest and to bring peace and harmony like it was before. If the crisis and violence continue further, then there is an apprehension that the fire might spread more, he asserted.
Pamei further appealed to both the communities to end the hostility and end the violence.
Meanwhile, one Abig Leichonbam, one of the IDPs of the relief camp, appreciated and thanked the villagers of Khoupum for providing some dry ration for the relief camp.
He said the government has been providing two meals a day for the last over over months but during this period, the IDPs are unable to get an income so that they could restart their lives after the crisis.
“I have situations like being unable to buy a single pencil for my daughter as we have not earned any money for over eight months,” he lamented.
He appealed to the government to provide necessary assistance for the IDPs so that they could earn for themselves while staying at various relief camps and prefabricated houses.
Later, villagers of Khoupum village and IDPs staying at Leimaram SS Girl’s Hostel had a feast together at the relief camp. At present, 137 IDPs from Churachandpur district are staying at the said relief camp.
