The Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) on Monday announced that it would extend support to both outer and inner constituency candidates projected under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 18th Lok Sabha elections.
“MDA will fully support BJP candidate Th Basanta Kumar and NPF candidate Kachui Timothy Zimik,” the alliance stated.
Speaking to the media at state Shiv Sena office, Imphal, MDA convenor M Tombi stated that the upcoming elections will be a vital exercise to elect a capable leader during the crucial juncture in the state.
“We are supporting the two NDA candidates because of their capabilities and commitment for peace in Manipur,” he said.
He stated that MDA was an alliance deeply in tune with the historical values of Manipur and strives to promote communal harmony in Manipur.
“No one can distort the history of Manipur and threaten the territorial integrity so easily,” he said.
He stated that supporting the present government was the only way to resolve the long drawn unrest.
He maintained that authorities should refrain from clamping down village volunteers during such vulnerable times.
The government should also release the three cadres of Pambei led UNLF unconditionally, he added.
Meanwhile, brother of K Timothy Zimik K Phung Zimik urged everyone to extend support to his brother.
“Everyone’s votes will matter and we appeal to all the people in the outer constituency to cast their votes for Timothy,” he said.
