The Socialist Students’ Union of Manipur (SSUM) on Friday stated that the crisis is a premeditated ploy to dethrone the chief minister of the state by drug lords affected by the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign and the wide-scale destruction of poppy cultivation.
A release issued by SSUM publicity secretary Salam Inaoyaima Singh stated that the present crisis which erupted on May 3 is a premeditated ploy devised by druglords and kingpins to dethrone the chief minister of the state, N Biren Singh, owing to the War on Drugs campaigns and the destruction of poppy plantations.
The drug lords, kingpins and poppy planters who have no consideration for the people or remorse for their sufferings have instigated the hatred between the Kuki and the Meitei to invoke the turmoil, it added.
It raised suspicion over the Kuki leaders’ adamant stand for the replacement of CM N Biren as a pre-condition for the peace talk initiation. It is high time for the 40 MLAs of the valley to leave all political differences aside and take a concrete stand against the replacement of CM N Biren, it added.
