Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) members on Monday took to the streets in Imphal and led a huge protest demonstration against the Narendra Modi-led Central government for allegedly indulging in "crony capitalism" and compromising administration to benefit Adani.
Demonstrating in front of the LIC office in Imphal, they demanded investigation into the Hindenburg Research Project under the Chief Justice of Supreme Court and inquiry by a Joint Parliament Team on investment by LIC, SBI, public sector banks and financial institutes in Adani.
The demonstration led by MPCC president K Meghachandra and CWC member Gaikhangam was carried out from the Congress Bhawan at BT Road and CLP leader O Ibobi joined the protest at the LIC office gate.
They demanded investigation of the Hindenburg Research Project under the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court or by a Joint Parliamentary Team, besides conducting a debate in Parliament on investment by LIC, SBI, public sector banks and financial institutes in Adani.
Speaking to the media, Meghachandra alleged that the Modi government has totally compromised the administration of the country in the interest of some corporate houses.
He said, it is unfortunate that the savings of 29 crore LIC account holders amounting to Rs 33,000 crore and savings of 45 crore people in SBI and other public undertaking banks amounting to Rs 80,000 crore have been invested in the Adani Groups.
As an ill-fated result of the unauthoritative nature of the Modi government, the public undertaking sectors are falling, he said, adding, “One should not forget that those large amounts of money are hard-earned money of the public, collected after drawing confidence.”
Slogan which reads, “Modi government, down-down”, “Lets save SBI-LIC”, “Down-down BJP” were raised during the protest.
Such similar protests were also taken up at different districts of the state, including Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, Imphal East and others under the supervision of the respective Pradesh Congress Committees.
