In light of recent incidents of poll violence, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Monday has called for heightened security measures to ensure the smooth conduct of repolling in polling stations within the outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.

Speaking to the media at Congress Bhawan in Imphal, MPCC president K Meghachandra asserted that the six polling stations announced for repolling have been identified as hyper-sensitive and vulnerable areas due to potential threats from anti-social elements.

Any wanton behaviour may occur during the repoll period by the anti-social elements as reported to the offices of MPCC by sources, he added.

Recognising the critical need for enhanced security in these areas, he has urged the CEO, Manipur to deploy adequate Central Para Military Forces and executive magistrates to ensure the safety and security of voters and polling officials.

Furthermore, Meghachandra stressed the importance of installing CCTV cameras and implementing video coverage within the aforementioned six polling stations.

Such measures not only aid in the effective monitoring of polling activities but also serve as official records for verifying the authenticity of electoral processes, he added.

The president further emphasised the imperative nature of these security measures to uphold the democratic process and enable voters to exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation and to ensure free, fair, and transparent election.

The six polling stations in the outer Manipur PC which are scheduled for re-poll on Tuesday are 44/20 Shangshak-A; 44/36 Ukrhul (A); 44/41 Ukhrul (D-1) and 44/50-Ukhrul (F) under Ukhrul (ST) AC; 45/14 Chingai under Chingai (ST) AC and 47/33-Oinam (A1) under Karong (ST) AC.
