The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has called for the resignation of CM Biren on moral as well as humanitarian grounds stating that he is unable to handle the situation as a chief minister and that, if he resigns, he will have nothing to worry about.

It has been 75 days and the state is still under turmoil with no sign seen from the central and state government side for an amicable solution. People are in the worst situation possible, waiting for the government to stop the conflict, MPCC general secretary P Saratchandra said on Monday.

“We don’t want an unqualified CM who is eager only for his chair. The state government will not protect the people of Manipur, we lost trust”, said the general secretary.

Speaking to the media at the Congress Bhawan, Saratchandra said that in such a prevailing situation of Manipur it is necessary to question what the BJP government is doing.

Many innocent lives have been lost, many became homeless and the people of the state are in the worst situation. It has been 75 days but the central government is silent, after one famous person, Amit Shah visited. If the state government is bound to protect Manipur and qualify, then they should act to restore peace in the state, he said.

However, they are unable to bring peace in the state, so, the chief minister should resign from his post on moral ground as well as humanity ground, he said, adding that there is nothing to worry after his resignation. There are many who are fighting for Manipur with their heart and soul, he said.

The government itself said that the law-and-order situation of Manipur has failed with the CM himself saying that the conflict became wide due to the failure of security and intelligence, the MPCC secretary stated.

Home Minister Amit Shah also said that the integrity of Manipur will not be destroyed and that those who go against SoO ground rule will be punished.

Now, the chief minister himself said SoO cadres are not following SoO ground rule, cadres are roaming openly. Then, what is the government doing, Saratchandra questioned.

The state government should fix the time of solving the issue and bring back peace in Manipur, or else hand it over to capable people.

Manipur has lost its trust in the government and if the government cannot assure of restoring peace, the CM should resign, he said.
