The Manipur Congress carried out a four-day yatra across the state accompanied by a local band-party playing various patriotic songs, marking 75 years of India’s Independence and culminated at Lamlai AC under Imphal East district on Saturday.
The yatra, which was carried out in commemoration of Azadi Ka Gaurav, started from Sawombung and was led by CLP leader O Ibobi, MPCC president K Meghachandra, CWC member Gaikhangam and other MLAs of the Congress party.
Speaking on the concluding occasion, the CLP leader said that the yatra is an act of honouring and remembering the great leaders of the Indian freedom movement who gifted the citizens of India to live with the pride of freedom.
He also said the MPCC had paid their tribute at the INA Moirang Complex where the first Tricolour was hoisted and paid homage to the Anglo war heroes of Manipur by visiting the Anglo-Manipur War Memorial at Khongjom in Thoubal district.
Ibobi also called on all the people of Manipur to safeguard and protect the integrity and status which the great leaders have gifted the nation by sacrificing their precious lives.
The MPCC president said that the yatra is a peace rally taken up in the interest of all sections of the public.
He also said the rapid rise in the GST, price rise of essential commodities, farmer issue, unemployment issue among others have been giving a big hurdle in running families especially people belonging to the financially unsound sections.
Participants of the yatra shouted slogans against the GST, price hike, unemployment issue, farmer issue and others.
The yatra is also an act to condemn the present deplorable governance, which contradicts the vision of the great freedom fighters of INC, the MPCC presiden added.
