Manipur CM N Biren Singh inspects hailstorm affected areas

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday inspected many places such as Mongshangei, Malom, Yurembam, Patsoi, Keithelmanbi and of Keirao AC that were affected by the hailstorm that occurred on May 5 and assured them of compensation.

At a relief camp set up for hailstorm victims, the CM also made the commitment, underscoring the government’s dedication to assisting those affected by the natural disaster.

He was accompanied by MLA L Rameshwor, DC Imphal East Kh Daina, and other officials.

During these visits, he interacted with hailstorm victims and assessed the extent of the damage.

Talking to the media, CM Biren said according to assessment reports, approximately 15,500 houses have been destroyed, necessitating substantial rebuilding efforts.

“To facilitate this process, houses damaged with GI sheets will be replaced, with distribution overseen by the concerned deputy commissioners (DC)”, CM Biren said and added that the DC will coordinate the distribution of daily necessities to affected families.

Regarding agricultural losses incurred, CM Biren disclosed that the agriculture and horticulture department is conducting surveys to assess the damage to vegetable crops.

Once the survey is complete, the government will provide compensation, including for poultry farms, to affected farmers, he said.

It should be mentioned that the chief minister also assured of imminent improvement of Imphal to Yairipok road infrastructure while addressing concerns raised by local women regarding the poor condition of the Imphal-Yairipok.
