Manipur: Chief’s association cuts through jungle to restore power

The Songpi Area Chief Association on Wednesday launched a mission to cut through the jungle, where high tension electric lines are installed, to restore power supply which has been disrupted in Churachandpur district, Manipur by the recent storms that hit the state.

The Songpi Area Chief Association on Wednesday launched a mission to cut through the jungle, where high tension electric lines are installed, to restore power supply which has been disrupted in Churachandpur district, Manipur by the recent storms that hit the state.

The exercise carried out after a request by the Electricity Department was participated by two persons each from every household of the area. They cleared paths in the jungle at Mata Lambulane and Old Gelmol area, while from the other side, Tuila Area was cleared from Mata Lambulane to S Kholen.

As per sources, one Thongsei, 60, was injured when he was hit by the bark of a falling tree during the exercises, and he was admitted at Churachandpur district Hospital.

The Songpi Area Chief’s Association expressed their gratitude to all those who took part in the activity, while sharing that they had been deprived of electricity for the past many weeks.

Parts of Churachandpur district also suffered a blackout on Wednesday as the 33Kv Khengzang line was affected by a storm.
