Manipur chief secretary clarifies on EU assistance

Manipur chief secretary Vineet Joshi on Wednesday clarified that reports being circulated of EU providing 250,000 euros to (Rs 2.25 crore) assist victims of severe storm in Manipur is false and untrue.

As far as the state government is concerned, all financial requirements in connection with the recent storm are being met from the available National Disaster Response Fund and the State Disaster Response Fund, stated a release.

It also stated that the state government is fully implementing all relief works connected with the storm through the concerned Deputy Commissioners, security forces & public volunteers.

No NGOs or civil society organisations have been entrusted to carry out the relief work, it mentioned. A sum of Rs 30 crore has already been sanctioned by the state government to the Deputy Commissioners of the concerned districts, it added.
