The Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, Justice Siddharth Mridul along with Justice A Bimol, Justice A Guneshwar and member secretary MASLSA Alex Muivah visited relief camps located at Meitei Langol and Akampat on Wednesday.

At the relief camps, the Chief Justice and justices interacted with inmates, stating that talk should be initiated by both the communities in order to restore peace in the state.

"Peace talks should be initiated by both sides to resolve the ongoing crisis", said the Chief Justice Siddharth Mridul while interacting with the media at Akampat relief camp. The peace talk should be initiated by the administration and not by the judiciary, he added.

"Peace talk is a part of a political process, and also the administration should make sure that law and order is maintained," said the CJ, adding that violence should be minimised for the welfare of the people.

He said 60,000 people are internally displaced and the government is taking all efforts to provide necessary assistance. He emphasized the involvement of a Supreme Court-appointed committee in offering legal aid and assisting the government in relief operations.

Recognizing the political nature of the process, he stressed the importance of ensuring that the voices of the affected population are heard and addressed.

He further reassured that efforts were being made to cater to the needs of children and elderly individuals among the affected population.

"All of them want to go home and that is a political process. What we can do is to make sure their voices are heard. We are certain that there will be a resolution", the CJ said.

He also explained to the inmates of the relief camp that he understands the problems of living in relief camps. We know what your difficulties are and that you worry about the future of your children too, he said.

He also said that information in relation to all school going children will be taken. Once we have the details we will try and ensure to fulfil your needs, he added.

The primary objective of the visit was to assess the situation on the ground, provide support, and ensure that the concerns of the affected population are duly addressed by the authorities.

He was accompanied by staff of the High Court and paralegal volunteers.
