Manipur: Caretaker stabbed by thieves

The caretaker, identified as Mayanglambam Rajeshwar, 40, son of M. Rajen from Kakching Paji Leikai, sustained injuries to his left abdomen.

A caretaker was injured after being stabbed by four thieves at the Solid Waste Management Treatment Plant, Kakching Municipal Council (KMC) in Kakching District on Thursday around 10.30 pm.

The caretaker, identified as Mayanglambam Rajeshwar, 40, son of M. Rajen from Kakching Paji Leikai, sustained injuries to his left abdomen.

According to reports, the electricity at the plant was suddenly shut down around 10:30 PM. Rajeshwar went out and saw four individuals tampering with the power supply. Despite his attempts to restore the electricity, the thieves repeatedly shut it off. Suspecting foul play, Rajeshwar confronted the individuals, who then attacked him with sticks and stabbed him with a knife. Rajeshwar fired a warning shot with his licensed double-barrel gun, causing the assailants to flee.

He reported the incident to KMC Chairperson N Sanjitkumar and was taken to CHC Kakching, where he was treated for minor injuries and discharged.

Local residents began searching for the thieves, but no arrests have been made so far. Kakching Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
