The Manipur Cabinet on Monday took a decision to convene the much awaited Manipur Legislative Assembly monsoon session on August 29, to avoid a constitutional crisis.
Earlier, the State Cabinet had, on August 4, recommended to the Manipur Governor for summoning the 4th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 21.
The previous session was held in March and was adjourned sine die on March 3.
Manipur had been engulfed by violence and ethnic strife since May 3.
Despite calls from various sections of the society, including political parties and prominent CSOs, the session failed to materialize in the wake of the present volatile situation in the state.
On the other hand, the possibility of both Kuki and Naga MLAs not participating in the session was looming large.
Government sources said, the cabinet decision had already been communicated to Governor Anusuiya Uikey and a decision is expected any moment.
