Manipur: Brown sugar worth Rs 3.50 crore seized

Imphal Customs Division seized contraband drugs worth around Rs 3.5 crore and along with it arrested a drug peddler on Tuesday.

Following the initiatives taken by the Manipur government on ‘War on Drugs’, Imphal Customs Division seized contraband drugs worth around Rs 3.5 crore and along with it arrested a drug peddler on Tuesday.

The arrested person has been identified as Md. Sabir Ali, 24, son of Md Shahejaman of Kwakta Ward Number 8, Moirang, Bishnupur district.

In a release issued on Tuesday, Superintendent (A/S) Customs Division, Imphal, Manipur, Thuilu Lanamai informed that acting on a specific information the officers of anti-smuggling unit of Imphal Customs division nabbed the person along with 700 grams (60 soap cases) of brown sugar.

The person was nabbed while he was trying to board a Dimapur-bound passenger Tata Winger at Koirengai Bazar in Imphal East.

It is said that the contraband drug was carried by the accused in his travel backpack.

The recovered drugs along with the accused have been arrested under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1986. The value of the seized drug is estimated at Rs 3.50 crore.

Further investigation to nab other offender(s) of the case is going on.
