Amid incidents of planting of bombs, firing at residences increasing in Manipur, a bomb was found placed in connection with a reported monetary demand at a barber shop located at the New Checkon Bazar Board, Imphal East at around 4.30 pm on Tuesday.
The shop is owned and run by one Babu Thakur, 48, son of Bajanathi Thakur of Samastipur, Bihar presently staying at New Checkon, Imphal East.
It is reported that one unknown person wearing black dress came and placed a box inside the shop and escaped from the spot.
The shop owner reported the incident to the Porompat Police Station. Around 6.45 pm, a team of bomb disposal squad reached the spot and after performing the formalities the bomb was defused safely.
District police blocked New Checkon road for around 15 minutes as precautionary measures.
Babu who is also secretary of Manipur Barber Association reported that around 10 days ago one underground organisation made a monetary demand from the association. He said there are around 80 shops registered under the association.
Police reported that the bomb is a highly explosive grenade; however, no detonator was found when the bomb was defused.
