Manipur: Bomb explodes in crematorium, one killed

A bomb exploded at a Hindu Crematorium in Konghang Ayitang under Ukhrul Police station in Ukhrul district on Monday night.

One died in a bomb blast that took place at a Hindu Crematorium in Konghang Ayitang under Ukhrul Police station in Ukhrul district on Monday night.

The deceased is identified as one Konsam Rajen, 60, son of (L) K Chaoba of Leitanpokpi Pukhao, Imphal East and was staying at Rayotang, Ukhrul. The locals reported that they heard a blast around 7.30 pm and found his body on Tuesday morning.

As per sources, a blast injury was found on his chest. A lighter, a mobile phone and a nail was recovered near the body. Police speculated that he might have committed suicide by using a bomb which is used for fishing.

During inspection, gelatin sticks and iron splinters were found from his pocket and they have been disposed of by the bomb disposal squad of Manipur police.

Ukhrul police station registered a case on the incident and a State Forensic Science team investigated the crime scene. Body of the deceased will be brought to JNIMS mortuary for postmortem on Wednesday

It was reported that the deceased person had three wives who were from Meitei, Tangkhul and Kuki communities respectively but were all separated. He was also the secretary of Meitei Baptist Church Ukhrul, but was denounced from the position due to his polygamous nature, sources said.
