Manipur BJP president A Sharda Devi on Sunday hit back at National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Y Irabot for his allegations against the BJP and accused him of misusing politics and misleading the youths. Veteran politicians should guide the youths concerning the political scenario in the state instead of misleading them, she said.

"Politics is a key to building a good society and it should be used properly. Veteran politicians like Erabot have misused the key and indulged in misleading the youths," the state BJP president said at the reception of Congress MLA Sanasam Bira Singh who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The reception programme was held at the state BJP head office located at Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal on Sunday in the presence of state BJP general secretary Abhay Kumar Giri and Sharda Devi.

National People’s Party (NPP) candidate for Wangkhei assembly constituency Y Erabot, who was a BJP ticket aspirant, recently alleged that the state BJP president took 2 crore, including vehicles, as bribe in exchange for BJP ticket from the aspirants, she said.

Sharda clarified that in her 27 years of political career, she had never misused the party funds for her personal interests. Instead of making such false allegations without proof, Erabot who is also a veteran politician should impart his knowledge gained from his political experience to the upcoming youths and guide them in the right path, she added.

She appealed to the youths to follow veteran politicians like Bira while building a political career so that they can become good politicians.

Bira said that he along with his supporters will be supporting the BJP candidate of Kumbi assembly constituency Sanasam Premchandra Meitei in the 2022 election.

He was again elected two consecutive terms in 2012 and 2017 election from the same assembly constituency but with the Indian National Congress party ticket. In the 2017 election, Bira won the election against the then BJP candidate Ningthoujam Mangi.
