Chief Minister N Biren Singh reportedly told a students’ delegation on September 27 that he is handicapped by imposition of Article 355 in the state of Manipur to intervene in matters of law and order.

Now, the state BJP leadership has asked for revocation of the same ‘if such an Article is in force’ in the state.

The question of Centre imposing Article 355 in the state of Manipur in the first week of May was first raised in the media after the appointment of a Security Advisor.

However, the Advisor (Security) Kuldiep Singh himself and Home Ministry sources had denied the imposition of Article 355. Besides the Advisor, a new DGP was also despatched by the Union Home Ministry soon after.

Further, in response to a RTI query, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had categorically stated that it has no information on any notification issued by the Centre under Article 355 of the Constitution between January 2023 and June 13, 2023.
