Manipur bids farewell to icon Maipak

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, while offering his condolences to the lifeless body of former Mr India 1970 title holder in bodybuilding, termed the athletes as ‘Son of Manipur’.

Manipur bade farewell to one its favourite son and former Mr India, Nongthombam Maipak Singh at his residence at Naoremthong Laishram Leikai, Imphal West.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, while offering his condolences to the lifeless body of former Mr India 1970 title holder in bodybuilding, termed the athletes as ‘Son of Manipur’.

Though N Maipak Singh breathed his last at the ICU of RIMS at around 6.20 pm on Monday evening, his mortal remains was consigned to flames at his local crematorium on Tuesday only as to enable well-wishers, supporters and followers to pay their last respect to the departed soul.

CM Biren Singh said, the achievement of N Maipak Singh as Mr India 1970 and as a participant in Mr Universe in 1971, brought immense pride and left an indelible mark on our state. May his legacy inspire generations to come and may his soul find eternal peace, the CM said.

The CM also said that he shared the grief of the family members and prayed for the needed strength in this difficult time.

Nongthombam Maipak Singh was born on June 12, 1935 at Uripok Sorbon Thingel Sinam Leikai. He is survived by his wife along with four sons and four daughters. Maipak Singh was 88 years old when he breathed his last.
