Manipur Assembly passes Rs 2,078.99 crore as grants for six demands

The Manipur Assembly on Thursday passed a total sum of Rs 20,78,99,24,000 as grants on six different demands moved on the Assembly floor by Leader of the House, N Biren Singh.

N Biren Singh, who is also chief minister of Manipur, moved the six different demands during discussion and voting on demands for grants in the third session of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

The six demands included Environment and Forest with a sum of Rs 710,72,85,000; Panchayat with a sum of Rs 156,80,42,000; Horticulture and Soil Conservation with a sum of Rs 96,50,65,000; Tourism with a sum of Rs 387,54,10,000; Minorities and Other Backward Classes and Schedule Castes Department with a sum of Rs 641,64,84,000 and Relief and Disaster Management with a sum of Rs 85,76,38,000.

Among the demands, opposition MLAs K Ranjit Singh, K Meghchandra Singh, Th Lokeshwar and Surjakumar Okram raised motion for disapproval of policy cut on demand number 19, Environment and Forest; demand number 38, Panchayat; demand number 43, Horticulture and Soil Conservation; demand number 45, Tourism; demand number 47, Minorities and Other Backward Classes and Schedule Castes Department; demand number 48, Relief and Disaster management.

After deliberation of the motion of disapproval of policy cut raised by the opposition MLAs, the concerned minister clarified the policy cuts. Later, the policy cuts were withdrawn and the House passed the demands on the assembly floor unanimously.

Meanwhile, Manipur Health and Family Welfare Minister Sapam Ranjan Singh laid a paper on the table of the assembly floor on “Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on Performance Audit of Select District Hospitals in Manipur for the year ended March 31, 2019”.

MLA LM Khaute, who is also chairman of the Committee on Public Undertaking, Manipur Legislative Assembly, presented “The Fifteenth Report of the Committee on the Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for the year ended 31st March, 2019”.

MLA Nishikant Sapam, who is also chairman of the Committee of Privileges and Ethics, Manipur Legislative Assembly, presented “the Thirty-Sixth report of the Committee for the year 2022-2023.”

 

Later, Leader of the House, N Biren Singh, who is also finance minister, introduced “The Manipur Appropriation (No.2) Bill, 2023” (Bill No.3 of 2023).
