The Manipur Legislative Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed 25 Supplementary Demand for Grant 2023-24 amounting to Rs 15,18,83,86,000 for various departments.
The demands for Grants were: State Legislature (Rs 22,41,19,000), Secretariat (Rs 2,36,30,000), Finance Department (Rs 128,71,37,000), Police (Rs 978,92,42,000), Information and Publicity (Rs 3,32,79,000), Education (Rs28,46,33,000), Municipal Administration Housing and Urban Development (Rs16,39,64,000), Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills Development (Rs 63,99,85,000), Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (Rs 12,33, 26,000), Co-operation (Rs 2,60,86,000), Environment and Forest (Rs 44,40,57,000), Textiles Commerce and Industry (Rs 2,70,00,000), Public Health and Engineering (Rs 16,48,01,000), Youth Affairs and Sports Department (Rs 1,89,80,000), Election (Rs 62,20,68,000), State Excise (Rs 32, 83,000), Jails (Rs 1,29,25,000), Rehabilitation (Rs 4,51,68,000), Minor Irrigation (Rs 5,04,13,000), Fisheries (Rs 1,02,74,000), Art and Culture (Rs 3,64,32,000), Social Welfare (Rs 4,75,36,000), Science and Technology (Rs 54,86,000), Minorities and Other Backwards Classes and Scheduled Castes Department (Rs 42, 00,000) and Relief and Disaster Management (Rs 110, 03, 62,000).
The House unanimously adopted to proceed to elect seven members of three financial committees namely, committee on public accounts, committee on estimates and committee in public undertaking in pursuance of Rule 233(1) of the Euke of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Manipur Legislative Assembly.
A sum of Rs 11509,60,79,333 was also granted in the House in advance to defray the charges in respect of the different departments for the meeting expenditure likely to be incurred during April to July 2024.
The chief minister also introduced Manipur Appropriation (No.1) Bill, 2024 and Manipur Appropriation (No.2) Bill, 2024 in the House which was passed.
Further, the House also passed Manipur Labour Laws (Exemption from Renewal of Registration and License of Establishment) Bill, 2024 (Bill No. 6 of 2024).
In the House, while moving the demands, MLA Kh Joykishan expressing his concern over state police hardship during the ongoing conflict announced his one month salary to be donated to DGP, Manipur for state police.
CM Biren assured of giving more attention to grievances of displaced people staying in relief camps and to provide text books for Class IX and Class X students staying in relief camps.
