Manipur: Arms seized, one apprehended

A combined team seized a vehicle carrying arms after chasing it while one of the occupants was apprehended at Kwakta Terakhongshangbi Ward no.1 in Bishunpur district on Monday.

A joint team of CDO Bishnupur along with a column of 16th Kumaon Regiment conducted frisking and checking at some strategic checkpoints in areas like Kwakta Maronglou, Terakhongshangbi, PhouchaoIkahai, etc, as per sources.

During the checking along Kwakta Maronglou along the IVR by one of our CDO teams, one Maruti Suzuki 800 dark blue in colour coming from Santhong side towards Terakhongshangbi side in a suspicious manner was signaled to stop in which the vehicle sped up and tried to escape from the frisking team, it stated.

Immediately other teams were alerted and one team chased the vehicle and overtook them at Terakhongshangbi Ward no 1 near the Canal. One person was detained whereas other occupant escaped by taking advantage of the dark, in which the team tried to stop by blank firing in the air, it mentioned.

On examination, the detained person identified himself as Laishram Rabi Singh, 33, son of L L Tomba Singh of Moidangpok Mayai leikai, Imphal West, it stated.

On questioning and checking the person and the vehicle, one M-16 rifle marked as property of U.S.Govt. M16 A1 CAL. 5.56MM4932006 with one Magazine loaded with eight live rounds of 5.56 mm were seized from the trunk of the vehicle. One 9mm pistol with one magazine loaded with two live rounds of 9mm ammunition under the front left seat of the vehicle. He was arrested from the spot i.e Kwakta Terakhongshangbi Ward no.1 near a canal at around 11.15 pm.

Therefore, the arrested person along with seizure articles were handed over to PGCI Police station for further necessary action, it added.
