Manipur: Arms recovered, three cadres of different outfits arrested

Manipur police appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos.

Security forces on Wednesday recovered various arms and ammunition during search operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.

As per a statement from the Manipur Police Control Room, the items recovered include one SMG Carbine, one 9mm pistol, one DBBL, six HE-36 Hand Grenades, four Tube Launcher, two SLR magazines, 58 live rounds, four 12-bore cartridges, two Walkie Talkies with charger, one Tear smoke shell (soft nose) and one Stun Shell (Anti-Riot) from Gwarok Ching in Thoubal district.

The statement also said that rescue efforts of Manipur Police, Army, AR, NDRF and SDRF are being carried out in flood affected areas of the state round the clock. It added that efforts are still continuing.

On the other hand, Manipur Police arrested two active members of proscribed outfit KCP (City Meitei) along with arms from Thoubal district on Wednesday, the police said. The arrestees have been identified as 26-year- old Lairenlakpam Thoiba, alias Sanajaoba Meitei and 32-year-old Singam Kabikanta, alias Thoiba Meitei.

Police recovered two 9mm Pistol with 2 magazines, 15 live rounds, one four-wheeler vehicle and two mobile handsets from their possession.

The control room also said on Tuesday Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of KCP(MC) namely Chingsubam Johnny Singh, alias Chingkhei, 38 years, from Ngangkhalawai Mamang Leikai in Bishnupur District.

From his possession, police recovered one 9mm Pistol (country made) along with magazine, three live round ammunition and one mobile phone, it stated. He was reportedly involved in extortion from the general public, local businesses and government officials, it asserted. It further said that a case has been registered for further investigations.

It also mentioned that security Forces arrested a 33-year-old man named Laishram Rabi Singh from Kwakta Terakhongshangbi, Bishnupur District for illegal possession of arms and ammunition on Monday.

Police recovered one M-16 rifle, one 9mm Pistol and ten live ammunition rounds from him, it added.

The statement also said that the situation in the state was under control. It further said that movement of 38 vehicles along NH-02 with essential items have been ensured and strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

A total of 118 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 37 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, it maintained.

It further appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. It also advised them to confirm any circulation of unfounded videos by dialling rumour-free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room and to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
