Manipur: Arms, ammunition seized; three drug smugglers arrested

The Police Control Room, Manipur Police on Friday stated that search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley district of the state, in which arms and ammunition were seized.

On Thursday, security forces recovered one 5.56 mm INSAS LMG with magazine, one 5.56 mm INSAS Rifle with magazine, 50 live round ammunition from the general area of Wangoo, Bishnupur district, stated a release.

On Friday, Manipur Police arrested three drug smugglers from Sekmai area, Imphal West. They are identified as Md Warish Khan, 35, Md Akbar, 36, Md Wahid, 22, it stated.

Further from their possession, three mobile handsets, two wallets containing Rs 19,620, one Tata Truck, 50 black plastic pouches containing suspected WY tablets weighing 0.992 Kg were seized, it stated.

It mentioned that the movement of 257 and 105 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it added.

A total of 125 Nakas/ Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 77 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, it mentioned.

It appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulations of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumour free number 9233522822 of the Central Control room, it said.  It further appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.

During the last 24 hours, the situation in the state was under control, it added.

Meanwhile, a combined team of Indian army and Assam Rifles recovered arms and ammunition, and other war-like stores from Bongbal Khullen, Imphal East district on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, Indian Army and Assam Rifles launched an operation on Friday and seized one AK-56, one mortar, one improvised mortar bomb, one Pompi Gun, two Improvised Explosive Devices, five grenades, ammunition and other war like stores. The captured weapons, ammunition and war like stores have been handed over to Manipur Police.
