Armed miscreants reportedly set ablaze the office of Manipuri Chanura Leishem Marup (Macha Leima) located at Palace Compound, Imphal East around 12 midnight of Friday.
Macha Leima president Wangkheimayum Amusana on Saturday told reporters at its office complex that some armed miscreants came and broke the main gate of Macha Leima around 12 midnight and demanded the caretaker to call out the office bearers of Macha Leima.
When the caretaker told the miscreants that all the office bearers have left the office, the miscreants started a fire using petrol from the ground floor after destroying the CCTV cameras, she said. The miscreants also burned down a four-wheeler parked inside the campus of Macha Leima, she added.
She reported that the miscreants reportedly took Rs 50,000 from the locker of Macha Leima micro finance office located inside the campus and also 30-40 plastic chairs, exercise books, uniforms of Macha Leima school, three laptops, two desktops and two printers. Manipur fire service later arrived and extinguished the flames.
She further said that Macha Leima was established in 1969 and is one of the oldest organisations of women in the state. Since its establishment, the organisation has been working for the welfare of the society and uplifting the women and needy people. There are no enmities with any individuals or organisations, she said.
The miscreants should clarify why they burnt down the office without any warning, and the authority concerned should also take necessary action to book the culprits, she added.
