Manipur: Ambulances to use different sirens

All the sirens fitted in the ambulance vehicles and any agencies other than Police and law enforcing agencies should not be similar with those used by Police and Law enforcing agencies in terms of type and sound, the Manipur government ordered.

The Manipur Government on Wednesday ordered that ambulances use sirens different from those used by law enforcing agencies, citing that it has created lots of confusion and panic among the general public.

The order issued by Commissioner (Home), Government of Manipur T Ranjit Singh as per orders by the Governor, stated that all the sirens fitted in the ambulance vehicles and any agencies other than Police and law enforcing agencies should not be similar with those used by Police and Law enforcing agencies in terms of type and sound.

It stated that the move was taken considering the sensitive nature of use of the same sirens by different authorities and to avoid any kind of likely misunderstanding and confusion which may occur among the general public.

The statement further said that the government views the matter regarding the issues arising out of the use of sirens with similar sounds being used by Ambulance and Police and Law enforcing agencies, keeping in view of the prevailing law and order situation of the state and for effective maintenance of law-and-order situation in the state.

The Transport department will issue necessary orders in this regard too, it added.
