As many as 73 Congress workers from Heirok assembly constituency left the party and joined BJP giving support to MLA Thokchom Radheshyam on Tuesday.
The newly joined BJP supporters are 23 families from Nongpok Sekmai, one family from Hijam Khunou and five families from Thokchom village.
Stating the reasons behind their leaving from the Congress party, the new BJP supporters said that they no longer have faith in Congress party and the intending Congress candidate of Heirok AC who is a former MLA.
Many developmental works have been taken up by the present MLA, Thokchom Radheshyam and it is their firm belief that a model Heirok AC can only be brought under the leadership of Radheshyam, they added.
Welcoming the new BJP supporters, MLA Radheshyam assured to take care of all the shortages in his assembly constituency.
BJP Heirok Mandal president Th Chourjit and Shikhong Sekmai Municipal Council former councillor, Y Indrajit and many other BJP leaders of Heirok AC attended the welcoming ceremony held at Nongpok Sekmai.
